Academy Award for Best Picture

The Academy Award for Best Picture is one of the awards given to people working in the motion picture industry by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; the awards are voted on by other people within the industry.

In the lists below, the winner of the award for each year is listed first, followed by the runners-up. The year is the year in which the award was made; the candidate films must have been released in the USA during the previous calendar year. For example, films released in 2005 were eligible for consideration for the 2006 Best Picture Oscar.

Each individual entry shows the title followed by the production company, and the producer. When the film was produced in a country other than the United States, the name of the country of origin is shown in parentheses after the production company.

This award was originally called Best Production.
